Effect of vasoactive agents on chronic saline loaded anaesthetised rats.

چکیده
Male albino rats were chronically loaded with sodium by giving 1% NaGl solution as the sole source of drinking water. Daily fluid intake, daily urinary output and daily Na + and K + excretion rates were compared with control rats receiving tap water for six weeks. At the end ofsix weeks, sodium loaded animals were found to have raised plasma Na + concentration, lowered plasma K + concentration and lowered haematocrit value. Sodium loaded rats were also significantly more responsive to the pressor effect ofsubmaximal doses of adrenaline, noradrenaline and angiotensin 11 given intravenously. It is concluded that the increase in sensitivity to adrenaline and noradrenaline may be due to changes in EGF and alterations of plasma electrolytes concentration. For angiotensin II, additionally, it may be due to low circulating endogenous angiotensin II, consequent of reduction in renin release attributed to chronic sodium loading.

The Effect of Quinapril on the Aortic Contractile Response of Streptozotocin-Diabetic Rats
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors appear to correct many of the abnormalities associated with the vascular dysfunction found in diabetic patients. In this respect, quinapril is a unique ACE inhibitor with multiple protective effects. The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of intraperitoneal administration of quinapril on the aortic reactivity of streptozotocin ...
متن کاملEffect of an Antagonist of Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide on Biological Rhythm of Rest Activity in the Rat
Abstract Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide (VIP), has been found in different neurotransmitter systems and exists in various nerve tracts in the brain. Potential role of this peptide in physiological processes such as regulation of sleep and wakefulness, and biological rhythms has been confirmed in several reports. In the present research effects of intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of a...
متن کاملEffect of chronic morphine exposure during the neonatal period on the anxiety like behavior of immature rats
Introduction: Several studies have reported anti-anxiety effects of morphine in adult rats. The present study examined the effect of chronic morphine injections in infancy and before puberty on anxiety-like behavior in immature rats. Methods: Neonate rats (n=35) were randomly chosen and divided into two groups. On postnatal days 8-14, one group received saline and the other one received mor...
متن کاملChronic atropine administration diminishes the contribution of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide to heart rate regulation.
Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) is implicated in the modulation of vagal effects on the heart rate. In this study, the impact of acute and chronic atropine administration on VIP levels in rat heart atria was investigated in relation to heart rate in the course of vagus nerves stimulation. Anaesthetised control and atropinised (10 mg/kg/day for 10 days) rats pretreated with metipranolol ...
متن کاملEffect of Glutathione on Cisplatin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Male and Female Rats
SUMMARY Cisplatin is a widely used anticancer agents that is effective against ovarian and other tumors. This drug is recognized as nephrotoxic in human and experimental animals. The effect of cisplatin-induced kidney injury was predominantly investigated in male animals. This study was designed to assess effects of cisplatin on male and female rat kidneys. We also investigated the effect of g...
